A woman awoken in air, a soldier forged by fire, a weapon risen from blood.
Vhalla Yarl has made it to the warfront in the North. Forged by blood and fire, she has steeled her heart for the final battle of the Solaris Empire’s conquest. The choices before Vhalla are no longer servitude or freedom, they are servitude or death. The stakes have never been higher as the Emperor maintains his iron grip on her fate, holding everything Vhalla still has left to lose in the balance.
Clearly I’ve completely fallen in love with Elise Kova’s Air Awakens series. I was so impatient to read Earth’s End that I bought an ebook copy on release day. I’ve never bought an ebook in my life! Of course my paperback came in the very next day. Oh well, still worth it! This one picks up shortly after Fire Falling leaves off, and Kova is at it again with amazing writing, gorgeous descriptions, and her wonderful characters.
It has been amazing to watch the progression of Elise’s writing grow and shift as this series continues. It just keeps getting better and better and the expanding of the world is made all the more real by it. The North with all of its jungle forests, tangled vines, and treetop villages were described so beautifully. Even the fighting sequences were rich in detail, full of the destruction war always brings. The stakes are set extremely high!
The character development in Earth’s End was top notch! Vhalla has certainly come into her own now and I was impressed by her growth over the course of these last two installments. Willing to speak her mind despite fears, using her knowledge to assist in planning, and making her own decisions. The ending of this one was definitely the culmination of her progress and while it definitely crushed my heart, it also felt completely right.
I am all in for books, short stories, anything really about the Golden Guard! Can we make that happen? I feel like I’ve finally turned the corner when it comes to Baldair. I was so suspicious and distrustful of the Golden Prince early on, but now he has cemented himself as a loyal and caring individual, wonderful in his own right. Jax has become a new favorite with all of his sass and jokes and I enjoyed getting to know more about Erion and the West. I want to know more about Raylynn now, please?
Overall Earth’s End by Elise Kova was another amazing edition to the Air Awakens series. Filled with lush forests, more fighting, and heart tugging tension, Kova brings so much joy and pain to this new installment. I definitely recommend this whole series to everyone especially those with a love of fantasy and elemental magic. The fourth book, Water’s Wrath, cannot come soon enough!
