Her vengeance. His vision.
Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.
Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.
When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.
He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

I received this book from the publisher on Netgalley. This does not impact my thoughts and opinions in any way.
Elise Kova returns with a brand new saga in The Alchemists of Loom and I couldn’t be more overjoyed with the brilliant characters, unique world, and of course, wonderful writing. I’ll admit to some nerves on how this would compare to my beloved Air Awakens series, but not to fear, it’s just as amazing and I’m thrilled to be able to talk about it here.
I will say I was a little confused as the reader is dropped right into the action but Loom and Nova are multifaceted worlds that take time to really be appreciated. There are so many working parts; from the five guilds (all with their own purpose) to the three races (Fenthri, Chimera, and Dragon) all trying to coexist. Elise weaves each and every piece together building a uniquely fantastical and steampunk vibe that works so well together.
Even with so much going on the characters actually shine brightest. Arianna is a marvel, working as the White Wraith, a notorious criminal, and hell bent on vengeance. Ari’s mysterious past motivates her, but she also focuses on training Florence who was a pleasant surprise. She grows so much over the course of this story, from hesitant and scared to speaking her mind and knowing what she wants.
As far as dragons (not actual dragons) are concerned Cvareh was my sweet angel. He’s honest and cares about his family, rebelling against the current state of things. Plus he’s willing to learn from Ari and Flor about the problems on Loom. Leona on the other hand is terrifying, truly showing the brutality of her kind, and way too consumed with the Dragon King.
Perspectives from both the world above and the one below go a long way in showing the current political dilemmas and threats that are rapidly taking shape. It truly made the stakes real and grabbed the reader’s attention. This also helped to understand the history of this world and Elise did an excellent job revealing just enough to keep me guessing every time.
Overall The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova is a great start to this new series, introducing us to a world that is full of intrigue and conflict. The dynamic between Arianna, Florence, and Cvareh captivates, making it extremely hard to not become invested. Plus the writing has weight behind it, leaving a definite mark on the reader. I highly recommend this one! Especially for the fantasy and steampunk lovers out there.
