Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. The Star Touched Queen/A Crown of Wishes
  2. The Wrath and the Dawn/The Rose and the Dagger
  3. The Forbidden Wish
  4. Alif the Unseen
  5. Written in the Stars

This week’s Top 5 is for books set in non-Western countries and worlds. Up first are The Star Touched Queen and A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi which are both set in the same luscious land inspired by Indian mythology. My second choice was the wonderful The Wrath and the Dawn and The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh which takes place in a captivating land inspired by A Thousand and One Nights. The next, The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury, is an Aladdin retelling where the jinni is female and Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson is set in a non-descript Middle Eastern city with magic and technology. Last on my list is a contemporary, Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed, where the majority of the story takes place in Pakistan.

Have you read any of these titles? More recommendation of non-western books?
