You’re still you no matter where you go.
Jessa has learned the hard way that traveling to alternate dimensions isn’t all delicious, glittering desserts and fancy parties: it also means accidentally running into people she thought she’d never see again. Still mourning a devastating loss, Jessa isn’t really prepared for the arrival of a reckless version of someone she once loved who is now bent on revenge. Add an increasingly complicated relationship with her best friend Ben, the reappearance of an old enemy, and the threat of the multiverse collapsing, and Jessa’s got a lot on her plate. She may be destined to help save an infinite multitude of worlds… but in the end, all Jessa really wants to do is save her friends.
L.E. DeLano’s Dreamer picks up shortly after the events of the first book, Traveler, as Jessa is still reeling from her introduction to reality hopping and all that came with it. I have to say I wanted a bit more from this second installment but the author still managed to craft a fun, interesting read with unique worlds and lovable characters that I had a hard time putting down.
Jessa deals with a lot in this one. Her anger and grief are very present but she’s still trying to live a relatively normal life while keeping up with her traveling. Finn, with his swoon-worthy accent, throws everything back into disarray again when he appears. Ben’s been there through it all though, super supportive and willing to crack a joke when necessary. I could totally have done without this love triangle though. I’d be remiss in not mentioning Danny ,who is once again a highlight, always observing and oh so kind.
I enjoyed the new realities Jessa and Finn took us to and the premise has always been a strength of these books. The descriptions and experience were something else but this story was definitely missing a strong plot. I was fascinated by Travelers and Dreamers but there wasn’t enough expansion on their roles and how it affected the realities. Plus the villain took a backseat for most of the story.
Overall Dreamer by L.E. DeLano was an interesting wrap up to this duology. I wish there had been a bit more in terms of expanding concepts and explosive conclusions but I truly loved the characters and the reality swapping was still incredibly cool. It’s a quick, easy read that packs an emotional punch and I think fans of SciFi and Fantasy will definitely enjoy it.
Are you excited for Dreamer? Think it’d be fun to travel to alternate realities?
