I acquired this ARC from the publisher. This does not impact my thoughts and opinions in any way.

A princess on the run, with enemies on all sides…

Vi Solaris is on the eve of getting everything she’s ever wanted—her family, her home, her throne—and to save the world she’s going to have to give it all up.

The Empire sees her as their Crown Princess, returning at long last. But Vi only sees visions of fate guiding her to the world’s gruesome end. Across the sea is a man who holds the keys to deciphering her premonitions and thwarting the ancient evil ravaging their world. But to get to him, Vi will have to contend with enemies of the crown, romance she didn’t expect, sorcerer pirates, and a betrayal she never saw coming.

She will learn the hard way that some evils never die… They only bide their time…

Vi’s long awaited reunion has finally arrived but now the imperial family is mourning an apparent loss and her visions are sending her to the Crescent Continent. She’s focused on her mission but also dealing with her new standing in the Solaris Empire. Vi is also learning what it’s like to have her brother around and navigating familial relations up close.

Honestly I could have used more Romulin and Andru but they were so sweet together and I’ll just have to hope for future moments with them. Jayme’s development was much needed with some predictability and one big surprise and I was happy to see Jax, Vhalla, and even Erion make appearances. Taaven continues to grow on me and his relationship with Vi is thrilling as well as complicated.

Overall Elise Kova continues to impress with her Air Awakens world and Chosen Champion delivered a character driven narrative that left my heart pounding. Filled with emotion and discovery, Vi’s journey from the North reflected a lot of inner turmoil as well as outside forces bearing down on her and the author provided plenty of ups and downs to keep me enthralled. Obviously I recommend picking this one up and if you haven’t started the Vortex Chronicles now is the time.

Are you excited for Chosen Champion? Wondering where Vi travels next?
