top 5 wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. President Claremont
  2. Emmy Michaelson
  3. Lisa Carter
  4. Momma Kabbah
  5. Ma Bollard

As Mother’s Day approaches I’m here to share some amazing mother figures from fiction with all of you. First up is President Claremont from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston which comes out next week. I mean, she’s a pretty kickass female president. Next is Emmy Michaelson from How to Make a Wish by Ashley Herring Blake. She really provides for Grace when things aren’t going well. Angie Thomas crafts fantastic families and Lisa Carter from The Hate U Give is a phenomenal mom. Mrs. Kabbah, mother of Ruth and Hannah from Talia Hibbert’s Ravenswood series, is super observant and brutally honest. Rounding out the list is Ma Bollard from Sarah Tolcser’s Song of the Current duology who is a pretty formidable woman.

Who are your favorite mother figures in fiction?

Top 5 Wednesday: Love Interests I Would Have Broken Up With

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses
  2. The Darkling from Shadow and Bone
  3. David from Truly Devious
  4. Inan from Children of Blood and Bone
  5. Malcolm from the Day of the Duchess

Today’s Top 5 is a little different with love interests I’d totally break up with. All five of these dudes screw up in some seriously massive ways and a few of them are super problematic too. I don’t need that kind of nonsense in my life.

Which fictional love interests would you break up with?

Top 5 Wednesday: Independent Ladies

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Kate Harker
  2. Zoya Nazyalensky
  3. Hail Bristol
  4. Inej Ghafa
  5. Vasya Petrovna

Oh look a Top 5 Wednesday topic to shout my love for some independent ladies! These five don’t let their feelings get in the way of them making waves. While some of them have romantic attachments or close connections, each and every one of these ladies does not let it slow them down. Plus all of them kick ass in a myriad of ways; fighting tooth and nail for what they believe in.

Which ladies would make your list? Disagree with my choices?

Top 5 Wednesday: Characters I’d Cosplay

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Nina Zenik
  2. 13th Doctor
  3. Rey
  4. Izzy Lightwood
  5. Hermione Granger

As it’s Halloween this week’s Top 5 is Characters I’d Cosplay! I love an opportunity to dress up like some of my faves so this holiday and cosplay in general is super exciting. Top of the list is Leigh Bardugo’s Nina Zenik and I just need someone to craft me a beautiful kefta for the occasion. Next is the 13th Doctor and thanks to Her Universe, fangirls can dress stylishly like Jodie Whittaker as I plan to this year. I couldn’t skip Star Wars so Rey is on the list and it’s one of the only costumes I’ve pieced together myself. Izzy Lightwood has always been a dream dress up for me and I love the Shadowhunter costume aesthetic. Cannot go wrong in black, right? Last but certainly not least is Hermione and it’s a go to costume for me and now I’ve got a robe.

Do you enjoy cosplay? Which characters would you like to dress up as?

Top 5 Wednesday: Characters on the Naughty List

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Holden Caulfield
  2. Severus Snape
  3. The Commandant
  4. The Darkling
  5. Xifeng

This week’s Top 5 is all about characters that would be on my naughty list. Probably Santa’s as well. The top two are people I just cannot stand in literature. Holden Caulfield is such an aggravating, infuriating kid and I really dislike Catcher in the Rye for him alone. Snape, on the other hand, may have a redeeming feature or two, but is so terrible to students that he’s forever on my bad side. Also bravest man Harry knew, yeah right. The others on the list are typically complex villains. The Commandant is a forced to be reckoned with and strikes fear into my heart. The Darkling craves power and control and Xifeng while new on the scene does whatever it takes to get to the top.

Would any of these characters make your naughty list?

Top 5 Wednesday: Nostalgic Book Boyfriends

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Fred Weasley
  2. “Ramses” Emerson
  3. Peter Pevensie
  4. Kostos
  5. Jacob Black

Today’s Top 5 Wednesday is all about those book boyfriends and girlfriends that go back to the very beginning of shipping and romance. At the top for me is Fred Weasley, trickster extraordinaire and brave Gryffindor. He’ll forever have my heart. Next is Ramses Emerson from the Amelia Peabody series. A dashing young man with a brilliant mind. I always thought Peter Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia was so dreamy especially after the movies came out and Kostos from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series was seriously hot. Last but not least is Jacob Black from Twilight. That’s right I was Team Jacob.

Do you have nostalgic book boyfriends or girlfriends?

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite “Unlikeable” Protagonists

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Kaz Brekker
  2. Sherlock Holmes
  3. Kelsea Raleigh
  4. Koschei
  5. Bellamy Blake

This week’s Top 5 is all about those unlikable protagonists you cannot help but love. First up is of course Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows. This criminal prodigy is pretty much awful but he totally has my heart. Next is Britain’s notorious sociopath, Sherlock Holmes (especially the Benedict Cumberbatch version), who I really shouldn’t care for but totally do. Kelsea Raleigh from The Queen of the Tearling makes this list as she’s hard to relate too but I still enjoy her story. Koschei definitely makes an appearance and everyone should read Catherynne Valente’s Deathless to experience him. Last but not least is Bellamy Blake whose up and down character arc has still endeared him to the masses.

Who are your favorite unlikable protagonists? Did any of ours match up?

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Minor Characters

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Dean Thomas
  2. Losen
  3. Vikram
  4. Fitzy
  5. Cyrus Vandergelt

This week’s Top 5 Wednesday is all about favorite minor characters in fiction. These aren’t the MCs or even side characters. They pop up infrequently in their respective stories but still found a way into my heart. First up is Dean Thomas from the HP series. While he was meant to have a larger role in the story, Dean’s appearances are always poignant. Plus he’s a soccer fan. How could I not love him? Then there’s Losen from Shades of Magic. The protege of Kisimyr is barely mentioned in the novels but somehow I just want to know more about him. Vikram, the Rajput from The Wrath & The Dawn, is powerful, reliable, and easily found his way into my faves while reading. Mentioned throughout the Off-Campus series, Fitzy is a hockey playing nerd who immediately caught my eye. Now he’s getting his own book in the new Briar Hockey series! Last but certainly not least is the lovable Cyrus Vandergelt from the Amelia Peabody series. He pops up in many of the Emersons adventures and ends up being a loyal friend through the years.

So, who are some of your favorite minor characters? Is it hard to zero in on specific people?

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Rhysand
  2. Nikolai Lantsov
  3. Nina Zenik
  4. Carswell Thorne
  5. Isabelle Lightwood

The end of 2016 approaches and New Year’s Eve parties are being planned. This Top 5 is all about the characters I want to ring in the new year with. I’ve essentially just picked the most attractive, outgoing five characters in possibly all of fiction, but I know they’d all be a blast. First up is the High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand, in all of his glorious splendor followed by my top book boyfriend, Nikolai Lantsov. Oh the trouble those two will cause. Nina Zenik is also attending and we flirt and eat til our hearts are content. I couldn’t not invite Carswell Thorne and he’s turning on the charm for every single person. Last but certainly not least is Isabelle Lightwood. She shows up all the boys and looks phenomenal doing it.

So which fictional characters would you like to ring in the new year with? Have any exciting plans for that night? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below!
