Guess what?

Hopeful Reads turns two today!

Can you believe it?

Two years of blogging fun and the book community have brought me so much joy at Hopeful Reads. As far as stats go there are 370 wonderful people following across WordPress, Email, and Bloglovin and I’ve made 510 posts with 11,728 total views. I’m truly so grateful for all the support.

Thoughts

My second year of blogging has brought on more challenges but just as much excitement. I truly love what I do here on this blog and don’t see myself giving it up anytime soon. Even going full time at the library hasn’t deterred me from posting regularly and I’m constantly in a literary loving mindset. I’ve even been putting more time into my Instagram and taking lots of pretty pictures.

Thanks

I just want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for supporting the blog. The bookish community is an amazing place and I love being involved here. I appreciate all the feedback, interaction, comments, etc. that have been shared on my site and hope that it continues in the future. As a way of showing my unending gratitude check out the giveaway below.

The “Anything But Books” Tag

IMG_3518

I came across The “Anything But Books” Tag on The Bookkeeper’s Secret and thought this would be a fun little post to do. So here’s a little more insight into me:

1. Name a cartoon(s) that you love.

Oh where to begin! Currently I’m loving Star Wars Rebels which I’m trying to catch up on. I also adore The Clone Wars, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Legend of Korra. Some old school faves are Hey, Arnold, Rocket Power, and Jonny Quest.

2. What is your favorite song right now.

I’ve been listening non stop to Ed Sheeran’s new album and especially Galway Girl and Castle on the Hill.

3. What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

Binge watching television shows is totally a valid answer right. I have so many to catch up on! Continue reading

One Year of Blogging: Memories Made, Lessons Learned & Giveaways Too

image

Has it really been a year? It seems like only yesterday I got this crazy idea to jump into the book blogosphere. I honestly never thought it would become a thriving hobby that I spend so much time on. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. Sharing my passion for books has always been a top priority in both my career and personal life and this has been the best experience so far.

Hopeful Reads currently has 201 blog followers from WordPress, Email, and Bloglovin. I’ve made 250 posts on here and receive around 500 to 600 views per month. My Twitter followers number 347 and on Instagram it’s 119. I just love bringing reviews, Top 5 Wednesdays, special features and so much more to people across the internet. Continue reading

Top 5 Wednesday: Worst Love Interests

Top 5 Wednesday image

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey on Youtube) as a way for book reviewers and lovers to share their love of lists every Wednesday. Check out the Goodreads group.

  1. Joffrey Baratheon
  2. Holden Caulfield
  3. Margo Roth Spiegelman
  4. The Darkling
  5. Draco Malfoy

I am all about romance in books whether its the focus or just a part of the bigger picture. Becoming way to attached to these fictional characters, who inevitably will crush my soul one way or another. Awful love interests however get no sympathy from me, just unbridled rage. These are some of the worst love interests out there with my varied reasoning.

2016 Love-A-Thon ~ Mix and Match Mini-Challenge

loveathon

The 2016 Love-A-Thon is a wonderful weekend event held from February 20-21 to promote positivity, kindness, friendship, and good vibes throughout the book community whether it be in blogging, booktube, bookstagram, etc. Hosted by Alexa Loves Books, The Novel Hermit, Stay Bookish & The Daily Prophecy, Love-A-Thon brings people together with fun challenges, twitter chats, blog hopping, and comment sprees. Come join the fun!

This little challenge is meant to mash up a non-bookish hobby or passion with your bookish life so I’m bringing you some of my favorite quotes about one of the things I’m most passionate about: SOCCER!

  • “Through a turnstile into another and altogether more splendid life, hurtling with Conflict and yet passionate and beautiful in its Art.” – JB Priestley
  • “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.” – Bill Shankly
  • “It is not just a simple game, it is a weapon of the revolution.” – Che Guevara

Also, here’s a little insight into most weekend mornings: watching soccer and reading a book. What more could I want?

So, do you have a favorite sport? When you’re not reading, what do you enjoy doing? Let me know in the comments below!

To kick off the event, everyone participating starts off with a post highlighting a little about themselves. So, find out a little about me with the questions and answers below!

QUESTIONNAIRE

What’s your name? Annalisse

Where in the world are you blogging from?

  • Good old Ohio, right on Lake Erie!

How did you get into blogging in the first place?

  • I was looking through blogs in my excitement for the release of Six of Crows and decided it was something I really wanted to be a part of!

How did you come up with your blog name?

  • Hopeful is an ironic nickname from back in the day. I attended Hope College and I’m quite the pessimist so my friends thought the nickname funny. I’ve used it on my social media ever since.

What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

  • Young Adult

What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

  • Top 5 Wednesdays, Classic of the Month, Owning a Piece of the Page, Sunday Street Team. Even an occasional discussion, cover reveal, blog tour, Teaser Tuesday, Waiting on Wednesday, etc. Really just a mix of everything!

Best blogging experience so far?

  • I’m going to go with my first ever author event where I got to meet a bunch of amazing bloggers as well as Victoria Schwab, Susan Dennard, and Elise Kova. I’d never have gone if I wasn’t blogging and it was such a great time!

Favorite thing about the blogging community?

  • The wonderful people! There so many amazing, open, honest, and generous people who make up this community and I have been so lucky to get to know them online!

Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2016!

  • How can I pick just five!?! Okay here are the five that first popped into my head: Crooked Kingdom, Lady Midnight, The Girl From Everywhere, The Rose and the Dagger, and A Gathering of Shadows!

Name the 5 books you want to read this 2016 that you didn’t get to in previous years!

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, Career of Evil, Library of Souls ,and Endsinger. Most of these are sitting on my TBR shelf, waiting impatiently, and calling out my name every time I look at them.

What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

  • One of my all time favorite series is the Amelia Peabody novels written by Elizabeth Peters. Set in the Victorian era and focusing on Egyptology and Archaeology, they are the perfect mix of historical fiction, mystery, myth and legend with plenty of action, drama, and romance for all.

Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?

  • I’m going with Nina Zenik from Six of Crows! She’s such an outgoing force to be reckoned with. Vivacious, fun, powerful, and loves to eat cake. She’s clearly got her priorities in order!

Which book boy or girl would be your book boyfriend/girlfriend?

  • Nikolai Lantsov! Intelligent, clever, and sarcastic. Such a strong leader with a proficiency in multiple weapons and devilishly handsome. He’s mine! Leigh Bardugo clearly knows how I like my characters.

Who would you recruit for your apocalypse squad (5 characters max)

  • Inej Ghafa, Nikolai Lantsov, Katniss Everdeen, Ronan Lynch, and Kaz Brekker.

Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

  • Well when I’m not reading I’m probably watching TV shows or movies. I’m also deeply passionate about sports (specifically soccer and KU basketball), and I love listening to music (pretty much any genre), and writing (mostly during NaNoWriMo).

Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

  • Everything! Currently I’m on a self-imposed clothing ban. After cleaning out my wardrobe, I realized I need to rein it in. Plus I’m not going to stop buying books so I need to cut back somewhere!

At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?

  • Anything by Halsey! Especially Drive which is giving me all the Blue/Gansey feels at the moment!

Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

  • I think my greatest desire is for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern to be turned into a movie/TV show, but only if it was done right. The fantastical elements and creations would make a stunning visual masterpiece and I’d love for it to be brought to life.

What would your dream library look like?

  • Well if I can’t have the Beast’s library, I’d like a room full of built in shelves. Books, nerdy trinkets, and photos all combined to create a cozy atmosphere. A cozy armchair to read in and a fuzzy rug over the hardwood floor just add to the room.

Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?

  • Definitely JK Rowling! She’s the author that has had the biggest impact on my life and I’d want to thank her for the wondrous world she created and pick her brain about all of her projects!

Look out for more Love-A-Thon fun throughout the weekend and let me know a little about yourselves in the comments below!

Six Month Blogaversary & Giveaway

6Versary

I cannot believe I’ve been blogging for six months already. I started my blog kind of out of the blue after discovering a few that really caught my eye back in July. I wanted to delve deeper into the book community and all of its amazingness and blogging felt like the best possible way. WordPress made it so easy to quickly set up a site and start posting almost immediately. My first post, a haul, went up on August 3, 2015.

It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’ve connected with so many wonderful individuals through Twitter and blogs, participated in plenty of chats and street teams. This community is so welcoming and wonderful even when issues do arise. It’s great to be apart of something like that. I even discover so many new books and authors now.

Since I’ve started blogging, I’m more critical when I’m reading, analyzing plot points and characters, worldbuilding and writing. I even feel like I read more, there is an urgency now even larger than before. I’m still reading for fun but now I get to share my experiences and opinions with so many other book lovers. It’s a win, win!

To celebrate the occasion and give a big THANK YOU to everyone who has followed and supported me so far, I’ve got two giveaways going on!

The first one is for one book of your choice, under $15, from Book Depository. As long as Book Depository ships to your country, you are eligible to enter.

Enter here: a Rafflecopter giveaway

The second giveaway is for a signed paperback copy of A Darker Shade of Magic and a set of four art cards. This one is US only.
