Life, Etc.

With June at it’s end, summer is off to a roaring start. And I do mean roaring in the ‘I’m constantly angry, want to scream all the time’ sense as well as the usual ‘things are moving quickly’ variety. Work has been insane and there are no signs of that stopping. Tons of changes, too much to do…it’s a lot! The anxiety, stress, and anger is boiling over and the state of the world isn’t helping.

I’ve been trying to hold tight to the things that relax me and reading has always been at the top. I picked up a lot of romances this month to compensate for the real world horror show and I’ve also taken comfort by watching a whole lot of soccer. It’s World Cup time and most days there’s at least a couple of games to keep my mind occupied. I’m once again behind on The 100 but only by a few episodes and I’ve watched Netlfix’s Lost in Space and Set It Up.

Was June crazy for anyone else? Any good self care tips?

Life, Etc.

May kind of got away with me what with all the craziness at work and life in general. Thankfully I just had a relaxing five day mini vacation over Memorial Day Weekend that will hopefully rejuvenate me for the upcoming Summer Reading Program. Our library has so much planned and it’s going to be even busier than normal. Plus we’ve got a renovation to look forward to as well.

My reading was all over the place this month but I did knock out sixteen books even though I strayed from my planned TBR a bit. I’m finally catching up on The 100 and spent an evening crying over the last four episodes of Season 4. I also got to see Solo: A Star Wars Story on opening night and really loved it. I had a couple of issues with it but overall it was loads of fun and built on the characters.

How was your May? Any exciting plans for the summer?

Life, Etc.

There’s not enough time in a day, a month, even a year to get to everything I want. That goes for reading, life, etc. Work has been one thing after another and it feels like everything is on fire. There’s been so many programs and summer is quickly approaching. My coworker and I did manage to weed the YA section in two days which was a rather cathartic experience.

On the reading front I pretty much crushed it. I got through twenty titles and most of my chosen TBR for April. Plus I’ve been reading widely when it comes to genre. In terms of TV and movies, my mom and I finished Longmire and we’re catching up on Jane the Virgin. And if you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War, get yourself to a theater pronto. Marvel went big and it did not disappoint.

How was your April? Any exciting plans for May?

How is it already April? Honestly being busy means time will not slow down for anything. My big work project came to fruition in our first ever nerd convention at the library. We had a bunch of programs featuring D&D, cosplay, superheroes, and more as well as a few vendors and fun crafts. Hopefully it will become a yearly event since it wasn’t a complete failure. Now it’s back to the grind!

It was another excellent reading month with fourteen books as well as a couple short stories and web comics. Plus I got to attend a Happy Hour event with Tomi Adeyemi in Detroit which was super cool. In other media I’m watching Longmire with my mom, catching up on Jane the Virgin, and I got to see Love, Simon in theaters last week. It was funny and I cried and everyone needs to go see it!!!!

Was March busy for you? Did you read some great books?

¬†February, of course, flew by with it being the shortest month and what has felt like the busiest so far. Work continues to be crazy with a renovation starting as well as programs happening left and right. Unfortunately near the end of the month my grandma passed away so an unplanned trip to KC was in the cards. She’s at peace now which is the most important part but it was nice to spend time with family and give her a proper send off.

Even with all this stuff going on though I was able to read seventeen books this month. I didn’t get to as many titles on my TBR as I’d hoped with review copies coming in that needed to be read ASAP but overall I’m happy with it. Plus I’m well on my way to my MG goal with three this month alone. In other entertainment I’m caught up on Call the Midwife on Netflix and Black Panther was freaking epic. Cannot wait to go see it again!

How did your February pan out? Any awesome books read this month?

Life, Etc.

2018 is off to a roaring start and January is somehow already at an end. The first month of this new year has been full of ups and downs and I’m not just talking about the weather. In terms of my goals I’m super excited to report that I have done Yoga with Adriene all month long. I’ve also made a couple of meals and have been eating more fruits and veggies. My body still occasionally revolts against me so some days are better than others and work has been all over the place at the moment.

I’ve started doing a monthly TBR and I actually managed to read all but one of the books on my list. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up this consistency. All in all I loved most the titles I picked up this month so fingers crossed the rest of the year plays out that way. In terms of TV I’ve been binge watching Call the Midwife and I’m caught up with This Is Us. I’m so not ready for the Super Bowl special feels.

How did the start of 2018 go for you? What amazing books did you pick up this month?

Life, Etc.

Is it really the end of 2017?

December went by so quickly with all the holiday shenanigans keeping me quite busy. I celebrated my 30th birthday, had a book club sleepover, cooked Christmas dinner for the first time ever (I didn’t ruin it!), saw The Last Jedi twice, and still managed to read a bunch of books! I caught up on Doctor Who, started My Hero Academia, watched The Spirit of Christmas (new fave), as well as all my traditional Christmas movies.

I’m hoping to round out 2017 by doing a massive clean out and attempting to organize my life. While this year was pretty rough I’m looking forward to 2018 and starting a new chapter, pushing myself to come out of my shell a little bit, and just putting myself first. If you want to check out my goals for the new year, Click Here, and I’m wishing all of you a wonderful 2018.

How was your December? Did it move as quickly for you as it did for me? Are you ready for 2018?
